Tettnang, Germany, September 10th 2018 - The new Avira 2019 family of Antivirus is here, giving your portfolio of devices unparalleled fast and effective protection against online threats. The expanded Avira Antivirus 2019 family – with premium and free variants – provides security for all your devices and platforms, whether they are Windows, Android, iOS or MacOS.
Light on its feet, won’t step on your toes
Avira Antivirus 2019 tackles users’ major irritant with security software head on – the daily performance lag during startup and operation. The new Avira Antivirus 2019 has one of the smallest footprints on user devices of any antivirus on the market, averaging 2-5 times better performance than other security products on the market according to internal studies – all while providing top-of-the-line security against online threats.
“Speed is critical; we expect our devices and the apps securing us to react fast and not slow us down,” said Travis Witteveen, Avira CEO. “With Avira Antivirus 2019, you’ll experience a significant performance boost in everything you do with your device, whether this is surfing, downloading, or running applications, all while enjoying best-in-class malware protection.
Bigger is not better
There are over 500 million unique viruses and malware-related threats in cyberspace. To detect and stop them accurately, it requires products to have a large databases or significant memory footprints to achieve a high level of detection. But as the number of threats keeps growing exponentially, security products relying on traditional signature detections can’t keep up: They are slowing down devices at the startup, consuming RAM memory, and hogging system resources as they work to identify malware.
Sized right for the threats
The need for more nimble security is why Avira Antivirus 2019 provides new detection capabilities based on next-generation machine learning. We’ve replaced millions of traditional patterns with new lower-footprint detections, slashing the size of these files – for both Windows and Mac devices -- by a factor of four. This pays benefits when it comes to starting a device, receiving updates, and speeding up daily operations. Best of all, it provides better coverage against malware than ever before.
Faster than a speeding bullet
Avira Antivirus 2019 is more than light on its feet, it’s fast. This speed is critical when it comes to identifying and stopping new and emerging threats. With cloud detection, every secured device acts as a sensor for Avira, enabling us to detect emerging, never-seen-before attacks. As soon as a new threat is identified, our customers are immediately immunized against it, protecting millions within seconds. In addition, Avira 2019 Cloud Protection Plus provides premium users with priority access to our protection cloud - ensuring that files are scanned and secured even faster.
Zeros in on ransomware
Avira Antivirus 2019 knows that ransomware and other malware are bad because of their behavior – and doesn’t have to wait for a traditional pattern identification. The premium feature looks for suspicious process uses, behavioral clues such as changes to the registry or attempts to alter, encrypt, or delete personal files – all steps which are typical of ransomware.
This enables Avira Antivirus 2019 to detect new and previously unknown ransomware and stop these attacks before they can fully activate. “We’ve fine-tuned the sensors and brought in some advanced heuristic detections for the specific needs of ransomware,” said Alexander Vukcevic, Director of the Avira Protection Labs. Of course, this goes in parallel with Avira’s full assortment of detection techniques and advanced machine learning to identify and stop a wide portfolio of incoming threats.
Tested and proven effective
Avira is a consistent top performer in independent security tests, repeatedly recognized by the likes of AV Comparatives and AV-Test. “Avira traditionally gets high scores in categories such as performance, impact, and PC Mark,” pointed out Alexander Vukcevic. “We believe there should never be a performance penalty for being secure – regardless of your device.”
In the latest AV-Test Consumer testing report, Avira took the top score across all three categories of protection, performance, and usability, earning the TOP PRODUCT badge for the best Windows Antivirus. In addition, Avira scored 6 out of 6 points in both protection and usability and 1 out of a possible 1 point for the apps additional features in a recent Android test from AV-Test. When it comes to its Mac solution, Avira achieved a 100% detection rate and had 0 false alarms, according to the MacOS Security Report 2018 report by AV-Comparatives.

The Avira 2019 family covers virtually all operating systems on the market such as Windows, Android, iOS and the MacOS. The solutions can be downloaded at www.avira.com, Google Play Store, and the Apple App Store.
